Tricam Workshop
Tricam Workshop
Yes, you read that right. We will be running a Tricam workshop at the end of May, date to be confirmed. For those familiar with me, will know I have a passion for tricams and strive to inspire others to use them.
The tricam
The tri-cam, is one of the most underused pieces of climbing protection in the UK. People who know how to use them, love them. Most know it exists, but don’t know what it looks like. For the ones that do, they find it a little weird or scary piece of gear, or frustrating as they are unsure as to how to take them out as a second.
Tricams have a reputation as one of the most versatile and dependable pieces of climbing protection in the world. Its unique design, featuring a camming action combined with a chock-like shape, allows them to fit securely in a variety of placements where other gear struggles. This versatility is key in climbing scenarios where traditional protection like cams or nuts might not work optimally due to irregularities in the rock surface. Tricams excel in flaring cracks, pin scars, and other awkward placements where other protection devices might fail to inspire confidence.
Tricams can be used on all rocktypes and in summer and winter climbing. Very versatile and cheaper than a set of cams.
The workshop
On the Tricam workshop we will be looking at:
- The different types and brands of tricams
- Ideal placements, versatile placements and marginal placements
- Passive and active placements
- How they can replace cams
- How to remove them as a second
- Their strength
- And of course do lots of climbing with them
Please send us an email or complete our booking form if you are interested to attend our Tricam workshop, and we will send further details out when a date has been confirmed.
